Workshop on the Social-Economic Situation of Middle East Youth on the Eve of the Arab Spring

The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs and Silatech have joined the Middle East Youth Initiative in sponsoring a workshop focused on understanding the social and economic conditions faced by youth across the wider Middle East on the eve of the Arab Spring. The workshop, to be held at the American University of Beirut on December 8-9, 2012, brings together scholars to present recent research on education, labor markets, entrepreneurship, social engagement and broader socio-economic issues with the goal of better understanding the foundations of the Arab Spring and the continuing exclusion experienced by the region’s youth as they transition to adulthood.

Taqeem Fund for Evaluation in Youth Employment

In 2009, the Middle East Youth Initiative partnered with Silatech to establish the Taqeem Initiative with the goal of promoting a greater usage of monitoring and evaluation methodologies in the Middle East in order to expand knowledge about what works best in regard to youth programs and policies. Now, Silatech has joined with the Youth Employment Network and the Jacobs Foundation to establish the Taqeem Fund for Evaluation in Youth Employment. The new fund seeks to build on the momentum and increased openness in the region to testing new approaches to the pressing youth employment challenge.
