Point of View: Samar Mezghanni

Samar Mezghanni joins us as a Youth Ambassador from Tunis, Tunisia. She was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest novelist in the world in 2000. She has a hundred stories published in more that two hundred Tunisian and Arab newspapers and magazines. She is a member of the Euro Mediterranean Youth Parliament, has participated in numerous youth summits, and is currently studying psychology at the High Institute of Human Sciences in Tunis.

ليلة بلا عشاء

على طاولة العشاء، في ليلة باردة من ليالي الشتاء، تجرأت على سؤال والدتي:" ماما، هل يمكن لامرأة وقرد أن ينجبا طفلا؟"

كنت في الخامسة عشر من عمري، أدرس مادة العلوم الطبيعية ككل التلاميذ، ومن المفترض أني تعلمت جيدا من أين يأتي الأطفال!! إلا أن ما درسته في المعهد لم يتجاوز بضع خطوط عريضة ومعلومات عامة حول الجنس... عفوا التلاقح! فالجنس كلمة لا تدرّس هنا... الجنس كلمة تدنس!

Reflections on a Scottish experience… Aye!

When I first arrived at Glasgow International Airport, my only concern was to find other delegates to accompany me to the Euro Hostel. I was nervous, worried, and a little bit scared: It was midnight in an exotic European country, where people drive on the other side of the road! Everything was different: the check-in machines at the airport, the freezing “summer” Scottish weather, and the ironic questions from the airport security police: “Did you pack your own suitcase?”
