Youth Exclusion and Political Violence: Breaking the Link and Engaging Young People Positively in Development

This conference marked the conclusion of a project on ‘Youth Exclusion and Political Violence’ co-funded by the World Bank ‘Trust Fund for Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development’ (TFESSD) and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project sought to identify ways to break the adverse relationship between youth bulges, marginalization, and political violence, and to engage large youth cohorts positively in development.

On December 4, Middle East Youth Initiative Research Analyst Mary Kraetsch delivered a presentation on youth policy development in the Middle East. Additional presentations addressed the challenges of developing youth livelihoods in the North Caucasus, the Pacific, and East Africa; youth policy development from the Caribbean region; and experiences from conflict zones such as the Sudan and Liberia.

Please visit the International Peace Research Institute website for more information, including the full conference agenda.
