Bringing Gaza Back From the Brink

US Special Envoy George Mitchell is in the Middle East to attempt to revive the Arab-Israeli peace process. Edward Sayre and Samantha Constant argue that, during his visit, Mitchell must attend to the dire economic and humantiarian situation in Gaza. Gaza’s well-educated youth are eager to work and establish a future like their counterparts in the West Bank, yet they continue to be sealed off from the global economy.

West Bank and Gaza Economy: Before and After the Crisis

Navtej Dhillon, Director of the Middle East Youth Initiative, interviews Edward Sayre on the viability of the Palestinian economy in light of the current crisis in Gaza. Sayre is the co-author of a forthcoming Middle East Youth Initiative working paper on demographics and the economy in the West Bank and Gaza, and currently serves as a member of the board of directors for the Middle East Economic Association.
