From Oil Boom to Youth Boon: Tapping the Middle East Demographic Gift

On January 7, the Brookings Institution will host a public briefing on recent findings released by the Middle East Youth Initiative, a joint partnership of the Wolfensohn Center for Development at Brookings and the Dubai School of Government. The Initiative focuses on promoting economic and social inclusion of youth in the Middle East. A distinguished panel of experts will present new analysis on the state of youth in the Middle East and how the region can tap into this impressive demographic gift. After the program, the featured speakers will take audience questions with a reception to follow. 

Invited panelists include:

  • Ragui Assaad, Regional Director, West Asia and North Africa at Population Council
  • Navtej Dhillon, Fellow/Director Middle East Youth Initiative, Wolfensohn Center at the Brookings Institution 
  • Nader Kabani, Director of Research, Syria Trust 
  • Djavad Salehi Isfahani, Professor of Economics at Virginia Tech and Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution
  • Diane Singerman, Associate Professor at the Department of Government, American University
  • Hilary Silver, Associate Professor of Sociology, Brown University
  • Tarik Yousef, Dean of Dubai School of Government and Non-Resident Fellow at the Brookings Institution
