Foreign Assistance in a Time of Crisis
On a panel hosted by the Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED) and the SAIS International Development Program at Johns Hopkins University, Navtej Dhillon, Director of the Middle East Youth Initative, discussed the current prospects for economic growth in the Middle East and how U.S. foreign assistance can be positioned to help the region address the challenges that lie ahead.
The event, entitled "Foreign Assistance in a Time of Crisis: Priorities for a New Administration," was held on January 29, 2009 on the SAIS campus in Washington, D.C. Featured co-panelists included Daniel Brumberg, Acting Director of the United States Institute of Peace’s Muslim World Initiative, and Jim Kolbe, former member of the United States House of Representatives and Senior Transatlantic Fellow for the German Marshall Fund. Francis Fukyama, Bernard L. Schwartz Professor of International Political Economy and Director of the International Development Program at SAIS, introduced the panel.
