Al Jazeera Hosts Expert Jad Chaaban on Vulnerability of Arab Markets

Middle East Youth Initiative expert Jad Chaaban was recently featured on Al Jazeera English’s Inside Story program to discuss recent developments in Middle East stock exchanges, where markets from Dubai to Cairo have experienced significant volatility.

Chaaban, author of Middle East Youth Initiative Working Paper: “The Costs of Youth Exclusion in the Middle East” (May 2008), points out that “although we thought before that there is a lot of liquidity in the region and that the Arab markets might be immune to all of these problems, it is apparent that Arab markets are not immune to confidence. There is a rush to sell, and we are seeing this everywhere…our Arab markets are still not really transparent, and information about investments is not flowing in the proper way.”
